Raffle to benefit Victims of Hurricane Stan

by Steev Morgan
For Immediate Release

Artist Monica Taylor has generously donated a beautiful 26"x36" oil portrait of a woman from Chichicastenango, to raffle off in aid of the victims of Hurricane Stan. Ms Taylor was influenced by the strong women she met during the 20 years she lived in Guatemala. The painting is on display a Coutts & Co. 17 Wilson St E. in Perth.

In the first week of October 2005 the Maya people in the highlands of Guatemala suffered a devastating ecological disaster that left thousands dead and many more homeless. Recovery will be a long process, as the poorest people were the hardest hit. Villages have to be relocated and arable land must be reclaimed. All money raised from this raffle will go to Guatemala to aid in rebuilding these lives.

Tickets are available at Coutts & Co. at 1 ticket for $2.50, 5 tickets for $10.00 or 10 for $15. The draw will take place on Jan. 14, 2006

You will find information about the project at www.guatemalastoveproject.org

PS the lucky winner of the draw on January 14, 2006 at Coutts and Co. was Amanda Brady. Congratulations, Amanda, and many thanks to all those who participated by buying or selling tickets.
